Hi!

I'm Whitney. Welcome to my little slice of the Internet, where I talk about life in Seattle and our travels beyond it. I have a handsome husbro I may have met outside of a bar, two crazy felines, and two kiddos, too. It’s a lot, so I’m not always spending as much time here as I’d like. Do you like reality TV, sampling all the products, and pickled veggies? Same!

I'm so glad  you're here.

Detoxifying My Beauty, One Product At A Time

Detoxifying My Beauty, One Product At A Time

Red Tricycle has paused #MOMLIFE contributions for the moment, which is a bummer, but I realized that thankfully I have this space and already did all the work, so I can still share two posts I wrote for them that didn’t get published. The first is similar to my non-toxic home products, but with beautyyyyy.

Herewith, my original post and a little widget of all my current favorite beauty things. I’m not limited to ten here (yay!), so you’re getting allll the goodness:

——-

As I researched and weeded out cleaning products that weren’t healthy for our family, I started wondering about EVERYTHING we were putting on and in our bodies: Was my foundation made with rat poison? Would my body wash froth chemicals into my lymph nodes? WAS ALL OF THIS GIVING ME CANCER? And so, as many healthy habits do, my beauty detox journey began—spurred by paranoia and hyper-vigilence.

I admit, I had a bit of a head start on non-toxic beauty through my last corporate job leading digital marketing at Gene Juarez Salons & Spas, the biggest salon and spa chain in the Pacific Northwest. We carried so many drool-worthy product lines and met with their teams at least twice a year to learn about new offerings. I tried to attend all of these meetings, whether I had value to add or not. I was a fiend for anything they had to offer. Grey hair shampoo? Yes, I will gladly take a sample. Self-tanner? Happy to test! Short-term neon hair dyes? Sure, hand it over.

One of the things I mention here, the Eminence Apricot Oil, came from my time sitting in on every product meeting at Gene Juarez. I wasn’t at that particular meeting (a conflict, I’m assuming?) to eagerly reach for a sample, so one of my co-workers and I would sneak into our Merchandising Manager’s office each morning before she arrived to ferociously rub the oil on our cuticles and slither back to our desks, vainly attempting to remain undetected. After I had my first child and chose not to return to commuting an hour(+) each way, I was forced to purchase a bottle for myself. Then I started sending them as gifts. The world had to know about this delicious, magic elixir! And, ladies, let me tell you: it is a gift to your pregnant bellies. With both of my pregnancies, I greased up my belly at LEAST twice a day, rolling my shirt and tucking it under my achy boobs while the oil absorbed. I have no stretch marks to speak of and I smelled amazing, so do with that what you wish.

Check out the literal fruits of my non-toxic beauty labor below, starting with that luscious Eminence Apricot Oil.

For face, I love Thrive for both CC cream and mascara. Their stuff lasts FOREVER, which I really appreciate. Also, don’t sleep on Tubby for bubble baths for YOU. They’re always coming out with new scents that smell just perfect—light and beautiful and clean. My link gets you 10% off your first order. I may earn a small commission from some of these links, at no extra cost to you, but please trust I actively use all of these things. I wrote both long and short descriptions of all of them for Red Tri, but because I submitted via a Google Form, the internet ate them all and I honestly don’t have the energy to re-write them all right now. If you have any questions at all (or want to tell me what you’re loving), please comment or HMU on IG.

Have fun playing with your products!
