What I Got for 4-Year-Old Son from Nordstrom Rack for Fall 2021

I may love a sustainable shopping experience, and I also try to buy well in advance, but sometimes there are wardrobe gaps to fill and Nordstrom itches to scratch. I am thoughtful about it all, constantly inventory-ing, editing, and re-assessing.

I am more than just a member of the Nordstrom Rewards Program. I am a former corporate employee (Rack social media and PR), a lifetime fan, and a cardholder. I never got the credit card because that’s a danger zone I’m not willing to step into, but they’ve grandfathered me into my debit card and I use it for key wardrobe + beauty updates, mostly for my kids.

Our daughter is two and she wears a lot of our son’s hand-me-downs. With a few additions from Swoondle Society and ThredUp, she’s good to go for fall. Our son, though, just had a growth spurt and handed most of his hoodies down to his sister. He is tall and skinny, so pants are hard to find for him. He’s also very into superheroes right now, so I went to Nordstrom Rack to see what I could find for him to have options this fall.

Psst, I’m a big Rack shopper but at Nordstrom (full line, as we called in) they are having a triple points event through the 26th. All you have to be is a member to get three points per dollar spent—that means giving them your phone number. If I had taken my card there, I would get six points per dollar. Credit cardholders would get six. It’s a great option! I still prefer Rack, but thought you should know.

Back to the clothes.

Batman PJs

I lucked out about six months ago on the Hanna Anderrson site and found him a set of Batman pajamas that he LOVES. They’re white with cool colors on the sleeves. The selection now isn’t nearly as cool, but they do have a black and grey striped set for $24. This set is half that! It’s the first thing I’ll add to my cart because he needs PJs the most right now. He also loves the solar system, so I will probably get him this set for $12—too hard to pass up that deal!

Biggie Hoodie

At our house, we love Biggie (and Tupac and Nas and Snoop—you get it). This hoodie is kind of pricey, but I know I’ll give it to our daughter and its lifetime will be very extended in our house. Plus, it’s just way too hard to resist. They also have one with Ice Cube on it. If they had one with Snoop, all bets would be off.

Joe’s Joggers

Our son is skinny and tall. It is SO hard to find him pants and jeans that fit him well. I often buy him the Cat & Jack joggers from Target because they’re relatively inexpensive and fit him perfectly, but they’ve been mostly low in inventory in his size lately. Plus, the quality is fine, but not great (thinner than I would like), so I always search a little harder for joggers that will fit him well and keep him warm while running around in the cold.

Perry Ellis Rain Jacket

As I mentioned, one of the things I keep in mind when buying things for our son is that he will probably hand it down to our daughter. This jacket is a perfect example of that. It’s the perfect layer for our PNW weather and high quality. I love the details of the little reflectors on it, which we’ll need as I’m walking him home from school in the rain.

We’re also potty training our daughter soon, so I’ll throw in a pack of undies for her to ensure we get free shipping. The best part about the Rack is that you can return to the store (a strategic move on their part I can’t hate), so even if something doesn’t work, I know it won’t be a hassle returning it.
