Brand Next Door: Girlfriend

Just as I’ve been working harder at finding non-toxic and sustainable products for our home, I’ve also been digging deeper into green/sustainable/eco-conscious clothing. I’ve always loved thrift and vintage shopping, but I’m also no stranger to the sale rack at Zara. I am imperfect. I am in progress. I am doing my best.

And, for years, I’d been hearing about a local Seattle brand called Girlfriend that, until I dug more recently, sounded like it sold expensive, recycled leggings. Girlfriend does sell expensive, recycled leggings (they’re made out of recycled plastic water bottles), but what I didn’t know then that I do now is that those expensive leggings (and long sleeves and pullovers and sports bras and and and) are SO worth it.

You can’t tell in these images, but I’m also wearing my new favorite long sleeve and sports bra under this fantastic fluffy. I’m no fashion blogger, but I wanted to rock some Girlfriend for my branding photos with Hallie Kathryn Photography to show that I may usually wear soft pants, and that has no bearing on how well I can use my brain. I’d even go as far as to argue that my brain works better in soft pants because I’m not fixated on my jean button digging into my gut or wondering if I’m pitting out in a polyester blouse.

I’ve also become a recent sucker for text marketing, and Girlfriend offers extra $$$ off your first order if you sign up for texts. They got me. They might get you, too. Plus, I genuinely look forward to their launches because their marketing is super-inclusive and thoughtful. They don’t hold much inventory, so shipping can be a little slower than we’re used to (because Amazon Prime), but generally, I’m good with that. Now, if only they had kids…wed have a REAL problem. Well, my husband would have one with the amount of tiny, ethical sweat suits landing on our porch ;)

There are lots of other perks with Girlfriend I love as well: A great rewards program, the ability to recycle your previous purchases, compostable packaging, etc. I don’t know about you, but becoming a fancy hippie is really filling my soul.
