Brand Next Door: Workhorse HQ

Sometimes I spend so much time with a thing that I don’t even think to share about it. That has been the case with Workhorse HQ, my saving grace the past several months.

I found Workhorse HQ after months of cold emailing potential clients around the Seattle area. I must have sent HUNDREDS of thoughtful, personalized emails to people. Out of the emails I sent, I got one, maybe two responses. Total. It was demoralizing. I had scaled my business back a few months before birthing B and now had a toddler, an infant, and a busy brain. I was bored. I wanted to work on cool projects and I wanted to work on them RIGHT NOW. I also wanted a hyper-local client that would be an easy walk or drive from my house.

When I make up my mind, I don’t like waiting on other people to make my dreams come true. This is one of my life challenges.

About three months into my frantic and frustrated cold emailing, I saw I had a new Instagram follower: @Workhorse_HQ. I checked out the profile, which was full of horse and Seahawks photos and tried to figure out what I was seeing. There was a link for a website that was under construction. The bio said it was going to be a coworking space. I felt the magic. This was my opportunity! I slid into Workhorse’s DMs asking if they needed marketing support. They did. We met. A few times. I brought the babies with me because I had to. They both screamed and/or pooped their pants.

We opened our doors a week or so before we had to close them due to COVID-19. Since then, we’ve been closed or lightly open and pivoting our business to fit the current climate. You can find out about all of that by following our Instagram account, but during all of it I’ve gotten to have a place to work without (too many) distractions roughly three times a week. If only for the space to think, it has been a Godsend. And it’s the first place of its kind in Edmonds.

In the future, we plan to host several different types of events. For now, we’ve hosted two socially-distant headshot events that raised money for the Chamber of Commerce. I’m working on spreading the word about this fantastic place in the community, so if you’re wondering how I “do it all” (I don’t), I outsource 12 hours/week of childcare and park myself here.
