Hi!

I'm Whitney. Welcome to my little slice of the Internet, where I talk about life in Seattle and our travels beyond it. I have a handsome husbro I may have met outside of a bar, two crazy felines, and a fresh little human born last spring. Do you like reality TV, sampling all the products, and pickled veggies? Me, too!

I'm so glad  you're here.

I Am Not Enough for Him

I Am Not Enough for Him

This is a total typical mom statement, but I believe that ODP is the most genius baby man who has ever lived. Mostly because of his incredible genetics and partially because of his innate magic.

A few months ago, I wrote about how we’re building our village and found ODP a part-time in-home daycare where he can make little buddies and learn a ton. Those 15 hours a week also help me focus on work and sometimes fit part of my beauty routine into the “free” hours. For the past two weeks, they’ve been pretty much closed for the “snow” that is in Seattle. It is no longer real snow, and yet, our care has been generally unreliable.

This would all be a little different if we lived near family or had backup options. I’ve had to shift gears to fit in my work AND entertain an increasingly busy and opinionated toddler. I love him and I love what I do, but I can’t do them both well simultaneously. I am not enough for him—he needs friends and projects and art and experiences and stimulation I’m not able to provide.

Mommies are superheroes, but even superheroes need help sometimes. I am not enough for him, and I don’t want to be.
